Best Agriturismo near Florence for a countryside escape
If you like the idea of visiting Florence while staying in the countryside, surrounded by the Tuscan rolling hills, and perhaps discovering the traditional productions of wine and olive oil, then Agriturismo is what you are looking for! Agriturismo is the Italian word for farm-stay, and the area around Florence is dotted with lovely places to stay and experience the tuscan country lifestyle.
So I’ve put together a list of the best Agriturismo near Florence, the ones I usually recommend to my clients.
Best Agriturismo near Florence to stay
All the Agriturismo that I have listed in this post are less than 30 minutes away from the city, surrounded by a wonderful rural landscape and offer experiences such as wine and olive oil tastings, bike tours and hikes in the nature.
The Agriturismo are listed from closest to farthest from Florence.

Fattoria of Maiano
Fattoria di Maiano is located in Fiesole, a delightful village with an Etruscan and Roman archaeological area, less than 10 minutes from Florence. The Agriturismo has a swimming pool and a restaurant where you can also do wine and olive oil tastings. It also offers many activities such as visits to the oil mill and the botanical garden, the animal farm, hiking and excursions in the countryside.
Being very close to Florence it is the easiest option for those who do not want to travel around too much.
Agriturismo Circugnano
Located in Grassina, 3 km away from Florence, Agriturismo Circugnano is a tiny little tuscan village, a bunch of stone houses surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. The two apartments has wooden ceilings, a large kitchen, wifi and a view on the hills.
Circugnano is a family run business, producing wine and extra virgin olive oil.
Poggio Casciano Ruffino
This Agriturismo is special: Poggio Casciano Ruffino is a Renaissance villa from the XV century with stunning views, a pool, an Italian garden and a restaurant with traditional tuscan cuisine with a contemporary twist. On the estate you can enjoy tastings and food and wine tours.
I recommend this place especially to wine lovers, because Ruffino is a historic producer of great Tuscan wines.
Castello del Trebbio
Located in Pontessieve, Castello del Trebbio is an ancient castle built in the middle ages, that once belonged to the Pazzi family. Today is a wonderful estate, producing some of the best Chianti wines. Guests can rent villas and apartments, enjoy wine tasting classes, hiking or just relax in one of the three pools. There’s also a great restaurant with organic products.
Personally, this is one of my favorites!
Villa il Leccio
This elegant farmhouse has an atmosphere that is like stepping into the past. It is located in Strada in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti wine region, about half an hour’s drive from Florence. Villa il Leccio is housed in an ancient medieval tower house, later transformed into a country residence. It has been in the same family for 9 generations.
The rooms are sumptuous, there is a beautiful swimming pool and a restaurant. In addition to wine tastings, cooking classes can also be taken.
