Best pizza in Florence: my favorite pizzerias and places
Where to eat the best pizza in Florence?
There are so many pizzerias in Florence, but there are some that are definitely a cut above the others. I have collected my favorite pizza places in this post, I hope it will be useful to fill your stay in Florence with flavors.
I chose them based on the quality of the ingredients and the digestibility of the dough, which are the two most important characteristics to me. All these pizzerias have found the right balance between tradition and contemporary cuisine.
At the end of this post you’ll find all the places pointed on a map!
I am a local, licensed tour guide in Florence and a food lover! Learn more about me.
Best pizza and pizzerias in Florence
in this list you will find some traditional Neapolitan pizzerias, some gourmet pizza with special ingredients, and, at the end, a couple of tips for a yummy gluten free pizza in Florence.
- I am keeping this post constantly updated! Last update: Februray 2023.
All of these pizza places are located in the historic center, except Santarpia which requires a taxi or bus ride.
Caffè Italiano
Traditional Neapolitan pizza, in a rustic but elegant setting. Simple but delicious ingredients, a soft and digestible dough. Caffè Italiano’s pizza is accompanied by a rich selection of local wines and craft beers. In the end I recommend their delicious tiramisu!
- Pizzeria del Caffè Italiano – via Isola delle Stinche, 19r (here on Google maps)
Santarpia
Their pizza is made with a special blend of personalized wheat flours, it is very soft and fragrant. Among the ingredients used there are products such as truffles and burrata, but also traditional Florentine products such as lampredotto and veil’s tongue. Of course there is no shortage of traditional pizzas such as margherita, marinara and Napoli. The pizzeria is located on the outskirts, but it’s worth it!
P.S. if you are a truffle lover, you should definitely do a truffle hunt from Florence.
Giotto pizzeria
Giotto is one of the most awarded pizzerias in the city, mentioned in the most important gastronomic guides such as Il Gambero Rosso. It is a traditional Neapolitan pizzeria, with excellent pizzas and yummy fried appetizers.
His first restaurant is located outside the historic centre, in the suburban district of Novoli, but he has recently opened a restaurant also in the centre, very close to the Santa Maria Novella station (in via Panzani).
- Giotto Pizzeria – via Panzani 57 (here on Google maps)
Berberé
Pizza with sourdough leavened for 48 hours, and topped with organic ingredients chosen by the best Italian producers. There are different types of dough, both traditional and gluten free, and even yeast free. One of my favorites is the pizza with ‘nduja, a soft and very spicy salami from Calabria. Berberé has two restaurants, one in the Santa Croce area and the other in the San Frediano area.
Berberé:
- Santa Croce area: Via de ‘Benci 7 (corner with Via de’ Neri) – map here
- San Frediano area: Piazza de ‘Nerli, 1 (here on a map)
Antica Pizzeria da Michele
Michele is a legend from Naples who has recently opened a pizzeria in Florence too, very close to the Mercato Centrale. His pizza is super old school, in fact on the menu there are only a few pizzas. And all of them are from the tradition of Naples, such as margherita, marinara, Neapolitan and the delicious fried pizza.
- Antica Pizzeria da Michele – Piazza del Mercato Centrale 22r (here on Google maps)
I ’Pizzacchiere
The Pizzacchiere also makes the traditional Neapolitan pizza, with a 72-hour leavened dough, crunchy and digestible. The place is simple and informal… and also very small, I suggest you book! It’s worth it, the pizza is very good and at a great price.
- I ’Pizzacchiere – via San Miniato 2/1 (here)
Extra tip: best sliced pizza in Florence
When I want a quick but tasty pizza snack after a guided tour at the Uffizi Gallery, I always go at Renato and Patrizia. This lovely couple has a small pizza place in via de’ Neri with a couple of outdoor tables (the sign is only saying “pizzeria”). Here they sell their crunchy, tasty sliced pizza, for a ridiculously cheap price.
- Pizzeria Renato & Patrizia – via de’ Neri 40 (here). That’s where I took the picture above where i’m biting a pizza slice!
Gluten-free pizza in Florence
Gluten free food is a serious thing in Italy! If you are intolerant to gluten or other foods, you can rest assured in Italy. The issue is taken very seriously, both by restaurateurs and customers, as well as by law. There are many restaurants specializing in gluten-free cuisine, and more and more regular restaurants are offering this option.
Here are the two best gluten free pizzerias in Florence:
Ciro & sons
If you are looking for a tasty but gluten-free pizza, Ciro & Sons is the right place for you. This pizzeria specializes in gluten-free pizzas, lactose-free, vegetarian and vegan cuisine. It was the first gluten-free restaurant in Florence, and the first lactose-free in Italy. In 2006, Ciro even won the World Gluten Free Pizza Championship!
- Ciro & Sons – via del Giglio 28/R (map here)
Pizzeria Lorenzo de’ Medici
Another address not to be missed for eating a good gluten-free pizza is Pizzeria Lorenzo de’ Medici. The entire restaurant menu is gluten-free, and also includes salads, pasta dishes, meat dishes and tasty desserts. It is located in the city centre, between Piazza Santa Maria Novella and Piazza San Lorenzo.
- Pizzeria Lorenzo de’ Medici – via del Giglio 49/51 R (find it on the map)
